Timemanage your work and yourself

Introduction

Do you recognize this? Occasionally, or more often, you feel overwhelmed by everything you have to do at work; you do not have a clear overview of your workload; your inbox is out of control; you switch from task to task and you do not know which task to do first.

Aim

In this training you will learn to improve your effectivity at work to get back on track. You will gain insight in your personal inefficiencies at work and you will get tools to manage yourself and your work in order to increase your productivity and to experience peace of mind.

In addition, in the computer sessions you will work in your own digital workspace to clean up and reorganize your inbox, and to increase your productivity with Google Mail, Calendar and Tasks. You will create a more transparent workflow and will get grip on your calendar and email.

Intended for

All employees of the University of Groningen, Academic and Support staff, who manage a diverse set of tasks, projects and responsibilities, and who are (for a large part) self responsible for planning the work.

Content

  • What is time management?
  • How to improve your workflow efficiency.
  • Setting priorities in work and in your life.
  • Planning your work.
  • How to deal with procrastination, internal and external disruptions.
  • Saying ‘No’ when you need to.
  • How to get your email under control (theory and computer sessions).
  • Google Mail, Calendar and Tasks: inbox versus priority box, efficiently labeling and archiving email, organize your tasks and projects in Tasks, monitor waiting-for items, working with filters, shortcut keys, how to use the calendar, lifehacking tips for working more effectively, other software tips (computer sessions).

    A fter this course you:
  • have insight in your working behavior and where you are working inefficiently;
  • know how to manage yourself to get the important things done;
  • can effectively process email (spend less time on it); have an empty inbox every day;
  • have your email, tasks and appointments efficiently organized in Google Apps;
  • are better in planning and prioritizing your work;
  • are more in control over the choices you make;
  • can handle disruptions from colleagues or from within yourself more effectively;
  • know how to deal with your procrastinating behavior.
