The Empowered PhD: Going beyond being a good student.
|Duration:||1 hour preparation, 3 hour workshop day 1, 3 hour follow-up day 2|
|Audience:||PhDs in their first year of study|
You are at the start of your PhD. It can be a daunting time. You’re in a new phase of your life, professionally, and perhaps also culturally. In this workshop we provide you with a mix of research findings and practical communication training to help you make the most of the years ahead.
One of the important aspects of your PhD experience is your relationship with your supervisor, so this will form a locus of attention. We we will look at how factors such as gender and culture may influence this relationship, and we will do hands-on exercises to help you feel more empowered in interactions with your supervisor and others in your work environment.
This workshop is open to all PhD students, and particularly those in their first year. The workshop takes place on two afternoon meetings, with a homework assignment before and in between meetings. Please note that active participation and attendance at both meetings is required.
Maximum 12 participants.
