Look back at the UCF intro week

With a festive introduction week consisting of both academic and social activities the University College Fryslân class of 2023 kicked of their time in Leeuwarden during the last week of August.

It all started with the official welcome by UCF dean prof. Andrej Zwitter and programme director dr. Indira van der Zande on Monday. They welcomed the students to the UCF community and reflected on their own time as a student. After this the students got to meet their academic advisor. The day ended in a sportive manner with Stand Up Paddling (SUP) and Beach Volleybal.

On Tuesday the students were introduced to the background of Liberal Arts and Sciences by University College Utrecht alumnus and Campus Fryslân prof. Caspar van den Berg, as well as the different UCF committees such as the student council, green office and travel committee.

Leeuwarden Student City and the Frisian Museum were explored on Wednesday. Next to that sustainable leadership lecturer dr. Elena Cavagnaro explicated the sustainable development goals further and dr. Indira van der Zande played an interactive Leadership game with the students.

Thursday introduced students to the history of academic tradition in Fryslân by a visit to the Academy of Franeker, were they also got to see the oldest working planetarium in the world and tried their luck at the Frisian sport Kaatsen. Furthermore, the University Library presented their various online tools and resources in an interactive lecture during this day.

Last but not least was Friday, during which students were further informed about what to expect from university life and got to individually meet with their academic advisor. To end the week all UCF students and staff got together for a festive final dinner.
