SDG Flag Day, the ‘birthday’ of the Global Goals
It’s SDG Flag Day, the ‘birthday’ of the Global Goals! On this day, Dutch municipalities collectively raise their flag to call attention to the 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
The municipality of Leeuwarden and UG/Campus Fryslân co-organised this event at the Beurs. Next to a speech from the Mayor and the honouring of local sustainability heroes, the SDG Flag Day also included the showcase of students from different educational institutions who are asked to pitch on the importance of a specific SDG based on one of their own projects.
On behalf of Campus Fryslân, UCF students Ellis and Hanneke pitched about their project regarding the potential of paludiculture for Frisian peat. “Wet cultivation contributes to the conservation of peat and thus to SDG 13 Climate Action”.
