My name is Sarah Feron and I am Assistant Professor of Climate Change and Energy Transition at Campus Fryslân. I am intrigued by the question of how climate change is having an impact on our planet and our society, and how the climate and energy systems interact. My other passion is Antarctica, where I was given the opportunity to do fieldwork several times. With the @antarcticacl team, we study the role of Antarctica in the Southern Hemisphere climate.

It is probably safe to say that my background is truly interdisciplinary: I studied international business administration in the beautiful city of Vienna and worked as a consultant for 6 years in Madrid, after which I returned to academia. During my PhD I tried to understand what factors foster or inhibit the sustainability of off-grid solar systems in South America. While I was doing my PhD at the Faculty of Sustainability at Leuphana University in Germany, I also started working at the Department of Physics at University of Santiago de Chile (and Antarctica, of course!). Before coming to Leeuwarden, I was a postdoc at the Jackson Lab at Stanford University where we worked on topics related to climate change and energy, as well as on predicting methane emission from natural systems.

In my spare time, I love playing tennis and running, doing outdoor activities, cooking, and traveling.
