Nolan Heinrich

Nolan Heinrich is a third-year student of the Bachelor’s degree programme in ‘Liberal Arts and Sciences’, who specializes in ‘Interdisciplinary AI’ in his free major, and currently has an average mark of 8.3 for his programme as a whole. He plans to continue his studies at Groningen with a Master’s programme in ‘Information Science’.

But Nolan is also highly active outside his studies. He was chair of the committee of Caerus (the UCG study association), which organizes the introduction week for newcomers. Within Caerus, he is also a member and the treasurer of the yearbook committee, and a member of the music committee and the election committee. Nolan considers it important to make new students feel at home at the University in general, and more specifically at the UCG. He was/is a one-to-one Student Buddy, was a mentor for a group of 12 first-year students and later, as a member of the Faculty Council, he actively supports his fellow-students across the Faculty. In addition, as a member of the Studenten Organisatie Groningen (SOG), he was elected to the University Council, where he is in charge of a broad portfolio.

During his unique pitch, he discussed the topic that was the subject of his Bachelor’s thesis: the different ways in which American-English and Dutch speakers pronounce the vowels ‘ӕ’ and ‘ε’. He was personally responsible for the coding for the accompanying experiment, and for gathering, processing, and interpreting the data. During his pitch, he connected with the jury and gave excellent answers to their questions.
