Tineke Reitsma

Faculty of Spatial Sciences

After studying International Business Administration at Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Tineke Reitsma obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Human Geography and Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Groningen, achieving good results. In parallel, she also followed the Honours programme. She is currently working on a Research Master’s degree programme in Spatial Sciences. Tineke is very research-oriented and is particularly interested in the impacts of globalization. Her interest in this subject started during her studies at Hanze University of Applied Sciences and she now focuses on the question of why globalization is so different for people in different areas. This is, of course, true at a global scale, which she witnessed with her own eyes during her previous work as an international sales executive in Santiago, Chile. Yet it also applies in the Netherlands; for example, if you compare the lives of people living in rural areas with those of people living in a city. In line with this, the question arises: Why do people choose to, or continue to, live and also feel ‘at home’ in a place, despite the sometimes great differences in the opportunities and prosperity available? Tineke clearly addressed this question in her pitch and she was also able to elaborate well in the discussion. Tineke has developed herself through many activities in addition to her studies. As well as a series of part-time jobs, she had held various research assistantships, is a secondary school teacher, organizes and helps at a special sailing camp for teenagers who are not self-reliant, and is involved in introducing the Groningen student cycling club ‘Tandje Hoger’ to new students.
