The 50-metre high tower of the Academy Building of the University of Groningen, built in the Northern Netherlands Renaissance-style in 1909, was presented with a unique carillon on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the university’s 'Representatiefonds'.

The 'Representatiefonds' was founded in 1896 on the initiative of a number of professors with the aim of ‘spending money in order to increase the honour and status of the university’.
