Conditions of employment
Here, you will find an overview of the terms of employment as laid down in the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU) and our local regulations.
Your salary depends on your salary scale and job profile in the University Job Ranking (UFO) system.
Holiday allowance and end-of-year bonus
Staff members receive an annual holiday allowance (8% of the gross salary) and an end-of-year bonus (8.3% of the gross salary).
If you live more than 15 km away from the University, you are eligible for a travel allowance, with a maximum of 4 cent per km up to 40 km (one way), regardless of which mode of transport you use to travel to work.

Fiscal travel allowance regulation
You may also be able to benefit from the fiscal travel allowance regulation, which enables you to convert (part of your) monthly salary into a (higher) tax-free travel allowance. This depends on your personal situation.
Flexible working hours and leave
A full-time employment consists of 38 hours. The number of holiday hours per calendar year is 232 hours in case of a full-time employment.
Flexible working hours means that the employee comes to an arrangement with his manager about weekly working hours that deviate from the customary 38 hours a week.
You can opt to work 2 hours more or less per week than the customary 38 hours a week, unless business interests do not allow for it. If you opt to work 2 hours shorter per week, 96 holiday hours will be deducted on an annual basis. If you work 2 hours more, you will receive 96 compensation hours. In that case you must take these compensation hours during the calendar year in which these hours are accrued. These numbers are calculated on a pro rata basis for part-time staff.
You accrue a pension with ABP.
Collective health insurance via Menzis (collective number: 58012).
Supplementary invalidity insurance, plus pension and supplementary surviving dependants’ benefit (ANW) via Loyalis.
In some circumstances, staff members who are recruited from abroad may be able to use the 30% facility. You will find more information about this in the 30% facility brochure.
Paid parental leave, receive 70% of your salary for part of your parental leave during the first year of your child's life, thereafter 62.5%.
The UG has been awarded the 'Informal-care-friendly employer' certificate. Employees with informal care responsibilities are offered a consultation with the informal care agent.
Bicycle Incentive Scheme – the UG has a bicycle scheme that allows you to buy a bicycle under certain conditions. You can take part if your contract is more than 0.3 FTE and you have been employed for 11 months or more.
Tablet/Laptop Scheme – provided that you remain employed by the University for at least one year.
