Prof. dr L.W. (Lodi) Nauta is Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy.

How did you end up at the University of Groningen?

I studied at the University of Groningen, did my PhD here, and made my career at the University of Groningen; because I’ve liked the place so much and I was lucky enough to make my career here, and there was no incentive whatsoever to move places or universities.

What is it like working for the University of Groningen?

The University of Groningen is a very welcoming place where everybody should feel at home.

How would you describe your work?

I am the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and a professor of philosophy. My work consists of a combination of teaching, research, coaching, and enabling others to do their work in excellent and socially enticing conditions.

What makes your job at the Faculty of Philosophy so much fun, and interesting?

We are a vibrant community of highly dedicated teachers and researchers; there is a strong sense of community, which is enhanced by our exceptionally good scores in international and national committees in research and teaching. As Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, I enjoy making it possible that people can do their work in excellent conditions and collegial spirit.

How do you find the University of Groningen as an employer?

I find the University of Groningen as a very good employer that fosters growth of its employees and students. A university that is technologically advanced and modern, but also appreciative of its traditions.

How would you describe the University of Groningen to outsiders?

The University of Groningen is a broad and classic university, with lots of opportunities to meet interesting people.

Do you think Groningen is a nice city to live and work in?

I was born here. I love Groningen. It’s a truly wonderful town, small enough to feel very much at home, big enough to have all the nice things of a big city at your elbow, with a beautiful countryside and clean air and wide horizons.
