Conditions of employment

Welcome to the University of Groningen!

Have you accepted a job offer from the University of Groningen? Then you will first have to deal with a few administrative issues. In order to process your appointment, Human Resources need you to fill in a number of documents. You can download these documents from this webpage. At the bottom of this page, you will also find links to other pages that will provide you with the information you need to have when you start working here.

Depending on your country of origin, you may need a visa or a work permit . Our Immigration Service Desk (ISD) is specialized in Dutch immigration law, and will apply for a work permit on your behalf.

NB: We would like to emphasize that you must present your identification to the University of Groningen in person, as the Compulsory Identification Act requires this from all employers in the Netherlands. Please report to the HR Information Desk, Oude Kijk in 't Jatstraat 41, tel. +31 (0)50 363.3671. The HR Information Desk staff will check the validity of your identification and make a photocopy of the document for your personnel file.

You must always be able to identify yourself at work. Identification can be done with your original passport, ID certificate or your Dutch or European driving licence.

You can visit us from Monday through Thursday from 8.30 to 16.30 hrs. and on Friday from 8.30 to 12.00. Please note: HR Information Desk entrance from parking place next to Academy Building (Oude Kijk in 't Jatstraat 41)

The aim of the HR Information Desk is to inform, especially international, staff members about getting settled in the Netherlands and working for the University and to offer practical assistance related to HR matters. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions regarding HR matters.

Dual-Career Support offers career guidance for partners of new staff. They work closely with Connect International and WIRE to offer social activities for partners (and their families).
