Chris Cusack (he/him) received his PhD cum laude from Radboud University in 2018. He has an MA (distinction) from University College London, and a BA (cum laude) from Radboud. His research focuses on questions of cultural identity formation, usually in transatlantic contexts. His PhD analysed representations of the Great Irish Famine in Irish and North American literature, and his current project explores the function of local colour in German American and Irish American writing. He also writes about the representation of death and dying in literature and culture, and is co-editing a collection on the representation of the human corpse in modern Irish literature for Liverpool University Press. His work has appeared in a large range of journals and edited books.

He has been the recipient of several scholarships and awards, including the Huygens Scholarship (twice), a GHI Horner Fellowship, a Keough Naughton Library Research Award from the University of Notre Dame, and a Boston College Burns Library Visiting Fellowship. As a literary critic, he writes for publications such as the Irish Times, the TLS, Poetry London, and Poetry Review. By night, he moonlights as a poet, with big words but only fair to middling success.
