Vision of the UG
‘Social safety requires an ongoing commitment from all of us.’ For the well-being of our students and staff, it is therefore vital that we continue to act together. It is crucial to listen and engage with each other so that together we achieve the desired climate in which we treat each other respectfully.’
Prof Jouke de Vries, chairman of the Board of the University
Together
What does a socially safe environment look like within our university? How do we as a UG community create a culture of resilience, connectedness and inclusiveness? We do this together and in dialogue. Encouraging and facilitating an ongoing conversation is one of the central themes of this programme, alongside fostering leadership and optimising a good support structure. We shape a safe, inclusive study and working environment together. Within our university community, everyone's contribution in this is valuable and indispensable.
‘Only in dialogue and together can we change a culture.’
José Weitenberg-Kroontje, cluster director HR & Health
‘It is important to hear everyone's views and opinions and learn from those different perspectives.’
Anne-Marie Petter, programme manager
Making Connections
The Strategic Plan 2021-2026 focuses on innovation, open-mindedness and, above all, commitment to and for society. Under the heading Making Connections, the university focuses on deepening existing connections and stimulating and facilitating new ones. This involves connecting with and between talents, knowledge partners, social parties, companies, the region, and the rest of the world. And above all – internal connections across disciplines. Social safety is an important condition to realise all these connections.
To achieve the above goals, staff and students are challenged to engage with each other to better understand each other's perspectives and become consciously competent in behaviour that contributes to open, respectful and equal interaction.
