ECHO Award 2023 open for nominations
Nominations for the ECHO Award 2023 are now open!
What is the ECHO Award?
The ECHO Award is awarded to successful students with a non-Western background who distinguish themselves for their entrepreneurial attitude, organizational skills, active social involvement and constructive approach to challenges related to exclusion. The winners will be rewarded with a fully catered Summer Course at UCLA in the United States in 2024. They will be chosen by an independent jury chaired by Ms Kathleen Ferrier, chair of the Dutch Unesco Commission.
Last year, UG student Yasmine Bouzoraa reached the finals of the ECHO Award for her research on democratic values in EU law, as well as her societal contribution supporting rehabilitation for women working as sex workers at Het Overweeghuis.
How does nomination work?
The UG may nominate a total of 3 students for the award, plus one student for the special Tax and Law Award (Faculty of Law) and another student for the special Beta Techniek Award (Faculty of Science and Engineering).
The D&I Office is facilitating the nomination of students. To nominate students, we request the nominating staff member to complete the application form in consultation with the nominee, and send this to diversity rug.nl alongside the nominee’s CV and motivation letter before 14 May. It is also possible to nominate a student who is a friend, a sibling, or yourself. In these cases, please send us the three documents directly.
