Daan Gelling combines marathon ice skating with studying Spatial Planning and Design at the University of Groningen. This past season, he made his debut with the first riders of the marathon squad and impressively finished in fourth place in the battle for the Marathon Cup. He ended up in the top 10 in eleven of his twelve races. 

Daan also clearly stood out on natural ice as a member of Team Bouwselect, like when he became fifth in the alternative Eleven Cities Tour near Lulea in Sweden. For the upcoming season, Daan will be skating in a Royal A-ware/ZiuZ suit, under the coaching of Jillert Anema.
