Arie Dijkstra

Prof. dr. Arie Dijkstra (Hoogeveen, 1961) is hoogleraar Sociale Psychologie van Gezondheid en Ziekte aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. Dijkstra is gespecialiseerd in de psychologie van gezondheidsgedrag en verslavingen. Hij publiceert hierover onder meer in toptijdschriften als Addiction en Health Psychology.

Dijkstra benadrukt dat verandering van ongezond gedrag soms tijd kan nemen: Het is een leerproces en gaat met vallen en opstaan. Ex-rokers hebben bijvoorbeeld uiteindelijk geleerd dat ze zonder roken kunnen en dat het leven zonder roken ook goed of zelfs beter is. Dat moeten ze zelf merken. De overheid is van invloed op ongezond gedrag, bijvoorbeeld, door het betaalbaar houden van het roken van tabak en het toestaan van reclame voor alcohol. Daarom heeft de overheid ook een verantwoordelijkheid om mensen te ondersteunen in gezond gedrag.
