Our guest this episode is Hanne Nijtmans. She is a PhD candidate and is researching conspiracy theories. Hosts Wim Brons and Hanna van Loo interview her about, among other things, the appeal of conspiracy thoeries, how a conspiracy theory originates, and what the common elements of conspiracy theories are. They also delve deeper into her dissertation: "Conspiracy Anxiety: Gender, Labor, and the Paranoid Style in American Podcasts." In it, Hanne Nijtmans examines what changes when a conspiracy theorists is not a (heterosexual, cisgennder, white) man, but a woman and/or a queer person.
