Students, other inhabitants of Groningen, and Knol's Koek: these are the ingredients for the latest episode of the RUG & Co. podcast. The focus is on the collaboration between the University of Groningen and the Municipality of Groningen in the project ‘Living together, researching together’. In this project, students, residents, and professionals join forces in a study of social cohesion in Groningen neighborhoods.

In the RUG & Co. podcast, science journalist Jelle Posthuma and programme manager Floor Kuiper seek out interesting and unusual collaborations between the University of Groningen and the outside world. This time, they talk to Vincent Hazelhoff (Science Shop Language, Culture and Communication) and Jeske Appelman (Municipality of Groningen) about research that UG Communication students are conducting together with residents of the city of Groningen and professionals in various neighborhoods of the city.

Hazelhoff talks about the origins and purpose of the Science Shops. He also explains how, in the aftermath of the coronavirus crisis, the Shops came into contact with the Municipality of Groningen for a study into noise pollution in the Schildersbuurt neighborhood. The project has since been continued in various other neighborhoods in Groningen. Appelman talks about the importance of collaboration between the municipality and the university, and bringing together different perspectives.
