Conference of the European Philosophy of Science Association

26 August 2025

Why do we put our trust in scientific experts? How is science best organized, and what rules should be in place for it? Ultimately, what do scientific models tell us about the world? In the coming days, over 400 philosophers from around the world will debate such questions during a four-day conference in the Academy Building.

In the next few days the Faculty of Philosophy in Groningen hosts the the bi-annual conference of the European Philosophy of Science Association (EPSA). The organization is in the hands of a team of local philosophers of science, led by Prof. Jan-Willem Romeijn.

The conference features keynote presentations by world-leading experts on the philosophy of physics, the structure of cognition, and the historical development of science. The breadth of topics and the strong interdisciplinary nature of the conference make it a unique event: lectures on the nature of animal cognition, the use of AI in medicine, uncertainty in climate science, and measurements in quantum field theory will all be held under one roof.

With more than 300 presentations the conference is the largest ever in the history of the EPSA. It is truly a showcase for the state of the art in philosophy of science, an an opportunity for all participants to strengthen the intellectual ties across borders, and deepen their philosophical understanding.

More information about the conference can be found on the website.

Dates: 27-30 August 2025
Location: Academy Building Groningen

Please note: the entire programme will be in English.
