UG 28th in World's Most International Universities 2025 rankings
The University of Groningen has been ranked 28th in the World's Most International Universities 2025 by Times Higher Education. With this, the UG leaves behind institutions such as MIT and Harvard. The 28th place marks an increase of five places: in 2024, the UG ranked 33rd.
Global nature
'Universities, by their nature, are global institutions. Typically, they are home to communities of students and scholars from all over the world, and they tackle some of the globe’s most pressing problems through research,' states Times Higher Education.
'A rightful, welcome observation, in these times of announced budget cuts,' states Board President Jouke de Vries, who is very pleased with the UG's ranking.
Methodology
The data for the World's Most International Universities 2025 rankings comes primarily from the 'international outlook' section of the THE World University Rankings 2025.
This looks at the proportion of international students, international staff and publications with at least one international co-author. Added to this is the university's international reputation. This is determined using the invitation-only Academic Reputation Survey, where leading scholars are asked to name the best universities for teaching and research in their field.
