Suzanne Manizza-Roszak, Assistent Professor English at the Faculty of Arts has received an Impact Explorer grant from the Dutch Research Council (NWO) for her postcolonial literary research and the project to translate the results into social impact. The Impact Explorer programme aims to explore the societal value of an unexpected scientific discovery or insight

Societal impact

With the Netherlands’ colonial history and its afterlives in the foreground of current cultural conversations, these issues must be addressed in ways that valorize and underscore “the strength and resilience” of subalterncommunities and voices (Mosis and Ogbebor Mosis 12). In partnership with the Allard Pierson Museum, this Impact Explorer project aims to translate postcolonial literary research into social impact via a program of activities highlighting the contributions of Guyanese, Surinamese, and Dutch-Surinamese diasporic writers to our understanding of the Dutch colonial legacy. An exhibition, community events, and toolkit for educators will make up the project’s planned knowledge transfer initiatives.
