PhD Day 2023 very successful
February 3rd 2023 was an unforgettable day for PhDs and post-docs in the Netherlands and Northern Germany. They all came together for the PhD Day 2023 in Groningen, the biggest PhD event in the Netherlands organized by PhDs for PhDs. After 2.5 years of lockdowns and uncertainties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the PhD Day could finally take place in-person again.
This year, all contributions centered around the theme “Sustainable paths: Planting seeds of innovation”. Topics included:
● sustainable career paths in and outside of academia
● sustainable well-being
● sustainable environment
● sustainable innovations
Thanks to our amazing organizing committee and 40 volunteers, over 750 participants enjoyed:
● An inspiring opening speech by Prof. Dr. Cisca Wijmenga
● Keynotes by Prof. Dr. Angela Maas and Prof. Dr. Linda Steg
● A panel discussion on the topic "Academia - Should I stay or should I go"
● A career fair and speed dating sessions with a variety of companies
● 20+ hands-on workshops around the topic of sustainability
● Many opportunities to connect with fellow PhDs and post-docs
Looking back, the organizing committee are extremely grateful that so many PhDs and post-docs joined us for this inspirational and fun event! Rector Magnificus Prof. Dr. Cisca Wijmenga said that she was “impressed by the success of PhD Day 2023”. Our international guests from the University of Hamburg, Hamburg Research Academy, Universität Bremen, and the University of Oldenburg were also very satisfied. Dr. Kerstin Lange, the representative of the Hamburg Research Academy, said that she will take many inspirations with her to Hamburg and that she is looking forward to joining the PhD Day 2024.
If you also would like to share your experience with us, please feel free to do so here!
