Through a phased biotechnological approach, it is now possible to efficiently convert recalcitrant biomass into sustainable green gas. In his thesis, Gert Hofstede presents the Artificial Rumen Reactor, which ensures stable transformation of waste streams into volatile fatty acids, while biological methanation in trickle-bed reactors effectively upgrades biogas to green gas. Integration and further scale-up of this technology provide promising prospects for future-proof, earthquake-free green gas production.
