Student Life

As a student at University College Groningen you will be part of a vibrant, international academic community. We have a fully equiped building where classes and other educational activities take place. Next to academic activities taking place at UCG, we also focus on social events and engagement outside of the classroom.
Study association: Caerus
Caerus is the young and progressive study association of UCG. Caerus brings UCG students together, as well as creating plenty of opportunities to meet other students from Groningen and the other University Colleges in the Netherlands.
We encourage students to join Caerus to benefit from social activities, such as sports events, parties, dinners and camping trips, as well as guest lectures, excursions, and skills training. Caerus also provides students the possibility of becoming socially engaged and to get discounts on study books. Become a member and join one of the many committees or create your own. Let Caerus open the doors to your full on student experience!

Student housing
Through our housing partner SSH, we offer you access to student accommodation in Groningen. Most UCG students live in Libertas, a residence specifically for UCG students, located directly across from our teaching building.
While we cannot guarantee accommodation, our experience in recent years makes us confident that we will have enough rooms available for our incoming students. This depends on the number of rooms that become available when current students move out.
Register early
Housing is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to students who have been registered for the longest. If you are considering studying at UCG, we strongly recommend registering for a Long Stay (campus contract) through ROOM as early as possible. The earlier you register, the longer your registration period will be when you are ready to arrange your housing.
ROOM is the national registration platform for student rooms and an initiative of social student housing providers.
Student Buddy
Hello everyone!
My name is Bent Beckmann, and I’m from Hamburg, Germany. I am a 3rd-year student, focusing on economics and data science.
Beyond my studies, I enjoy making music, sports of all kinds, and hanging out with my friends. I am also very active in the UCG community, both as Chair of our Music Committee and Co-Chair of the Faculty Council.
As Student Buddy, I am there to help you with any questions regarding your application to UCG, the programme itself, the City of Groningen, student life, or really anything that you want to know before coming to UCG!
Please feel free to contact me through studentbuddy.ucg rug.nl

Never have I felt so at home in a place, than at UCG. Everyone is warm and easy to connect to. There’s a general family-feel to the faculty, and a deep sense of trust towards everyone" Greg Charitonos
