Sustainable business challenge 2022

10 February 2022

For the last three years, five leading universities combined forces to create an international award-winning event: The Sustainable Business Challenge. Each year the challenge is set by a public organization. In previous years we partnered with the Metropole Area Amsterdam, the Province of Groningen and UK’s Civil service. The theme of the fourth edition will be ‘innovations in food sustainability’. We are proud to present the University of Cape Town as our new partner university in this challenge.

The Challenge is a four-day online event and is organized by the University of Groningen, University of Liverpool, Newcastle University, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the University of Cape Town and the University of Bath. The 2022 edition will take place from February 28 to March 3. Working in cross-university teams, 125 students will be challenged to work around the theme of food sustainability. Supported by business advisors, students develop innovative solutions and then pitch their ideas to a panel of business professionals. Examples of possible assignments are: How to encourage stakeholders in the food supply chain to move towards more sustainable practices, healthier lifestyles, or better food choices.

The exact focus of the challenge can be determined together based on your interests and current Sustainable Development Goals issues. We have learned from experience that a broad approach inspires students and leads to creative solutions.
