Unveiling Wisdom

Supervisors:

Wisdom. What constitutes wisdom? Is it a trait and therefore largely genetically determined or is it a skill that can be cultivated? Can we be educated to be wise; can wisdom be taught? Can wisdom be operationalised and measured? Is wisdom located somewhere in the brain? Has the concept of wisdom changed over time? Does the concept of wisdom differ between cultures? What are words of wisdom; how can wisdom be communicated? How has wisdom been construed in literary texts? What is the relationship between spirituality and wisdom? Are there certain mental states that are conducive to profound knowledge or insights that could qualify as wisdom? How is wisdom portrayed in the media?

Our project is set to ‘unveil’ wisdom; project groups are going to tackle one of the above questions or other questions of their choice and engage in research to answer them. Research could take the form of secondary or primary research (collecting authentic data) using a variety of research methods and tools including surveys, interviews, media analysis etc.
