The effects of post-colonial art

Supervisor:

My desire is to work on diversity in art. As a mixed person, I grew up with a complex (but not less rich) identity, which made me question all the narratives I was exposed to.

From history classes to health practices, I have come up to the realisation that the general educative transmission was rhythmed by significant post-colonial dynamics. Accordingly, I took years to deconstruct these power paradigms and want to contribute to the field, stemming from my interest in art. I aim to investigate representation in culture, focusing on the city where I spent an important part of my life.

Beyond the required reports, I was thinking of organising an art exhibition as a way to bring forward another narrative for people of colour. I want to realise my pieces in line with the results of the research. The methods of investigation will include interviews, a review of relevant literature, and perhaps visual arts-based approaches.
