Evaluation of UCG's programs on students’ mental health

Supervisor:

  • Maria Ioannou

What is the complex problem that your project will consider?

As mental health problems are increasing among the youth, the workshops “Self defence and resilience” and “Mindfulness Meditation” organized within UCG are a great opportunity for our students to improve their mental state. In our project, we would like to explore and evaluate these two programs, including the perspectives of both organizers and participants.

What are the project deliverables beyond the required reports?

We aim to create a short documentary-film about these two workshops, including interviews with the participants and organizers and our analysis of their effectiveness.

Predict examples of the academic literature, data, professional reports, and other materials that you will use.

Most of our investigation and therefore data gathered will be done through the interviews we will conduct ourselves. We suspect also to use some academic literature on the topic of training that improves wellbeing in students, which we will use as background knowledge.

Briefly describe your methods of investigation

The first step we will have to take is to investigate the different workshops/interventions there are within UCG that help with increasing students' wellbeing and which ones we are including in our project. Then we will have to do some literature search on the topic, so as to define key concepts such as resilience and discover what the current literature says about the project. The next step in the investigation will be conducting interviews with the teachers (of these workshops/trainings) and the students who have participated in them. This will provide us with their experiences, thoughts and opinions with and on the workshop. After that we will analyze the acquired data and start producing our end products.
