PhD project: Carving Communities in Stone. Inscriptions as a medium of Hellenistic inter-city connectivity in Kos and Priene.

This project is funded by the NWO through the PhDs in the Humanities program and is supervised by prof.dr. Onno van Nijf, prof.dr. Luis Lobo-Guerrero (International Relations) and dr. Christina Williamson. The project considers how language of connectivity, communicative rituals and cosmopolitan spaces interact to make inscriptions effective media for the creation of a sense of community between the Greek cities of the early Hellenistic era. It aims to combine epigraphic, linguistic, historical, and archaeological approaches with insights from the discipline of International Relations to gain an all-round perspective on connectivity in the ancient world.
