Sílvia Costa is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Innovation Management & Strategy of the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Groningen, The Netherland. Sílvia was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Northeastern University, Boston, U.S.A., where she was a grantee of the Kauffman Foundation on a project focusing on entrepreneurial learning. Sílvia obtained a PhD degree in 2015, defending her doctoral thesis about entrepreneurial cognition at ISCTE-IUL, Lisbon, Portugal.During her PhD, Sílvia has collaborated with the University of Twente, The Netherlands, and with the Technical University of Dresden, Germany. 

Silvia's work delves into the intricate dynamics of entrepreneurial thinking, exploring the relationship between emotions and cognitive processes among entrepreneurs. Her research has shed light on the cognitive mechanisms underlying the identification of new venture ideas and the emotional factors influencing this entrepreneurial endeavor. Additionally, Sílvia has a wide interest in other aspects of entrepreneurial activity, such as the emotional dynamics within entrepreneurial teams, and the determinants of entrepreneurial wellbeing. Methodologically, Silvia is keen on employing experimental designs to advance entrepreneurship research. 

Sílvia’s work has been published in leading journals in the field, such as Entrepreneurship and Regional Development, Journal of Small Business Management, Creativity and Innovation Management, International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behavior & Research, Journal of Social Entrepreneurship, Journal of Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurship Education & Pedagogy, among other. 

Currently Sílvia is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Small Business Management. She is one of the Board members of the European Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ECSB) and is the founder of the network and ECSB Special Interest Group on Conducting Experiments in Entrepreneurship Research.
