dr. S.H. (Sanne) Booij

Senior researcher / scientific coordinator TRAILS

As a behavioral and neuroscientist at the Interdisciplinary Center for Psychopathology and Emotion Regulation (UMCG) and Lentis Mental Health Care, I am committed to improving mental health care by looking beyond clinical outcomes to include personal and societal recovery. For example, I conduct research within TRAILS (www.trails.nl), a large longitudinal cohort study, to better understand why some people recover with the help of mental health care while others do not, or recover without engaging with mental health services. I also serve as the scientific coordinator of this cohort. At Lentis, I use a variety of applied research methods to improve interventions and care processes.

I completed my Bachelor's degree at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and my Master's degree at the University of Groningen. In 2015, I obtained my PhD for research into the stress hormone cortisol, which appears to behave differently in people with depression.
