prof. dr. P.M. (Paula Maria) Bögel, PhD

Visiting professor

Field/Discipline

Expertise

Driven by the goal to support sustainability transitions, Paula Bögel’s inter- and transdisciplinary research centers on understanding human behavior in transitions. Her work focuses on collective action, examining the relationship between collective action at the meso level of groups and organizations and systemic change processes. Her goal is to understand the implications of individual and collective actions for socio-technical transitions within their systemic context—how these actions are shaped by and actively shape the surrounding system. To achieve this, Paula integrates theories from psychology (particularly social and organizational psychology), social sciences, and transition research. For example, in the ongoing research project "Just Power Up," Paula and her team investigate the social, democratic, and transformative potentials arising from the collaboration of citizens in energy cooperatives for a comprehensive energy transition. Core theoretical concepts in her studies include inclusivity, identity, and the impact of energy transition projects. Previously, Paula hold Fellowship at the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis in Karlsruhe; has been a Senior researcher at Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm; and at the Chair of Human Behaviour & Sustainable Development, Leuphana University Lüneburg. While she is a Visiting Professor at IREES, University of Groningen, she also holds an assistant professorship for Transition Management in Rural Areas at the Department of Psychology at University of Vechta.
