His current research revolves around the catalytic processing of all types of sustainable (carbon) sources such as biomass residues, with a current focus on lignin and waste plastics. Here, he combines different types of catalysis and detailed chemical analysis to obtain upgraded oil mixtures, but preferably defined polymeric and monomeric compounds that can be used for novel bio-based applications. Key approach are selective chemical modification to enable new utilization or facilitate catalytic breakdown.
Current Projects:
Closing Carbon Cycles with Renewable Amines (3CRA), Missiegedreven Onderzoek, Ontwikkeling en Innovatie (MOOI)
Circular Foam Horizon 2020
INREP– An Integrated approach towards Recycling of Plastics, Missiegedreven Onderzoek, Ontwikkeling en Innovatie (MOOI)
Carbohydrate Compentence Center: CarboBased
B-Ligzymes (Rise H2020)
Sustainable Orange Cultivation (NWO-FAPESP Meriad Fund)
Innovative Catalytic PVC Recycling (partnered with Blue Cycle & Core Pro B.V., EFRO project funded by SNN)
