I see myself in the Humboldtian tradition combining inter- and transdisciplinary research, teaching, and societal impact. My research studies transformation processes from general principles – e.g. regulatory principles/human rights, policy, or ethical principles – towards specific governance and regulatory frameworks related to data and technology.
I study governance structures to achieve digital autonomy/sovereignty, regulatory and ethical principles transforming into the EU AI Act,
security-related issues such as surveillance, and privacy as it translates into the EU GDPR.
With my interdisciplinary background in law and philosophy, I work at the inter-
disciplinary faculty Campus Fryslân of the University of Groningen, where
I serve as programme director of the BSc Data Science and Society. In addition, I am affiliated with the Jantina Tammes School of Digital Society, Technology, and AI.
