Short Biography

Dr. Marije aan het Rot studied Biological Health Sciences at Maastricht University. Before graduating with a Master's degree, she completed two research traineeships, one in the local Experimental Psychopharmacology Unit of the Department of Psychiatry and Neuropsychology under the mentorship of Prof. Wim Riedel and another in the Department of Psychiatry at McGill University under the mentorship of Prof. Marco Leyton. After graduating from Maastricht University she returned to McGill University to obtain her Doctoral degree under the mentorship of Profs. Simon Young, Debbie Moskowitz, and Chawki Benkelfat.

Upon completing her studies Dr. aan het Rot worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Program of the Department of Psychiatry at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Her mentor there was Prof. Dennis Charney. In 2009 she moved back to the Netherlands to take on the position of assistant professor in the Experimental Psychopathology group of the Heymans Institute for Psychological Research at the University of Groningen. Dr. aan het Rot is associate professor (tenured) since 2014 and obtained the ius promovendi in 2023.
