Expertise
Welcome to my profile!
I am Dr. Kees Keizer, Assistant Professor of "Behavioral Influence" in the Department of Environmental Psychology at the University of Groningen. My work is driven by a fundamental fascination with human behavior and the conviction that we can make the world more sustainable, safer, and more pleasant using targeted psychological knowledge.
Core expertise
- Behavioral influence
- Translating scientific insights into practice
The Bridge Between Science and Practice
My core academic expertise lies in the factors that guide our decisions, behavior, and perception. But I find an even more important question to be: how can we tangibly apply these insights to stimulate positive behavioral change in organizations and society? My absolute passion and primary added value lie precisely at this intersection of theory and practice. I am convinced that there is still an immense amount to be gained by making complex scientific insights truly understandable and directly applicable. My goal is not just to research academic knowledge, but to translate it into workable solutions for today's challenges.
Education: Sharing Insights with a Broad Perspective
This vision of the interplay between science and society is also central to my teaching. I thoroughly enjoy teaching the course Social Influence, one of the most popular subjects within the University Minor. Every year, I have the privilege of guiding over 350 students from various faculties—ranging from economists and lawyers to medical students—through the psychology behind influence. We dive into the unconscious factors that guide our choices and explore together how we can effectively deploy this knowledge for behavioral change. The fresh, multidisciplinary perspective of these students makes this cross-pollination inspiring year after year.
Impact Beyond the University Walls
To keep the connection between theory and reality sharp, I combine my university role with work in the field. As a freelance consultant, researcher, and speaker, I help governments, institutions, and companies with complex behavioral issues surrounding themes such as litter, communication, safety, and environmental experience. This dynamic works both ways: my practical experience ensures lively and highly current education, while science provides the foundation for my practical work.
