dr. J. (Joanne) Smith

Joanne Smith is lecturer, and research coordinator, at the Center for Human Movement Sciences in the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) at the University of Groningen. She studied Applied Sport Sciences (BSc HONS) and gained a MSc (by Research) in Education at the University of Edinburgh before completing her PhD in the Department of Physical Education, Sport and Leisure Studies at the University of Edinburgh, UK.

During her PhD Joanne taught courses in motor control, skill acquisition, motor development and research methods on undergraduate Sport Science and Physical Education programmes and participated in an ERASMUS student exchange to the Center for Human Movement Sciences, University of Groningen. After returning to Edinburgh to complete her PhD she worked as a research associate in the Perception Movement Action Research Centre (PMARC), University of Edinburgh examining the perceptual control of infant behaviour.

Joanne moved to the Center for Human Movement Sciences (Groningen) in 2009 to work as a postdoctoral fellow investigating the continuous visual control of interceptive catching. In 2010 she began the role of research coordinator for the Center for Human Movement Sciences.
