dr. J.F. (Hans) Meijer

Since my dissertation published in 1994 on Dutch-Indonesian relations during the period 1950-1962 I have participated in all kinds of research projects related to Dutch-Indonesian (post)colonial relations.   

The latest finished project (2008-2013) concerned the biography of the Dutch diplomat Herman van Roijen (1905-1992). The book was written together with Rimko van der Maar and published in 2013. It got very good reviews.

Since two years I work on a biography about the ceo of multinational Unilever in the 1930s-1950s Paul Rijken (1888-1965). This project is housed at the 'Biografie Instituut' (Biography Institute) attached to the University of Groningen. 

Since September 2017 I workfor the Royal Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies in Leiden, participating in the research project 'Decolonization, violence and war in Indonesia, 1945-1950'.  I am member of the sub-project Regional Studies with East Java as my specific research area.
