Profile

Henk ter Bogt is emiritus professor since June 2021. Het obtained 'doctorandus' ('master's') titles in business economics and economics (cum laude) from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Groningen and later also a Phd from this Faculty. He has been an academic staff member of the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Economics and Business, since 1991. He was professor of public management fom 2004-2021. Until 1991 he was, among others, a researcher/consultant in the profit and non-profit sector and a financial policy official. He has also been involved in various more administrative and supervisory tasks in practice. He taught management accounting and management control and helped introduce new teaching methods, e.g. by developing cases. He was involved in under-graduate, graduate and post-graduate programmes. Further, he has been, among others, head of the Accounting department, chairman of the MScBA Programme Committee Innovation & Organization, interim-director Education of the Faculty of Economics, and the coordinator of the MBA specialization programme Organizational & Management Control. He was also an associate editor of Qualitative Research in Accounting & Management, and a member of the editorial board of Financial Accountability & Management and Public Money & Management.  He was the academic supervisor of the project 'Strengthening financial decentralization and local financial governance in Tanzania', a Nuffic-funded project in which the University of Groningen and the Institute of Finance Management in Tanzania cooperate.  His research centres on the public and non-profit sectors, with a focus on local government. He is particularly interested in such subject areas as the effects of autonomization of government organizations, performance auditing in government organizations,  changes in management accounting and more generally financial management of non-profit and public sector organizations, knowledge development in the field of public sector management accounting, and performance measurement in public sector organizations. He is involved in scientific research, but also in more consultancy types of activities.
