F.H. (Flávio) Eiró de Oliveira, PhD
Dr Flávio Eiró is a sociologist and political ethnographer. He has conducted ethnographic research on electoral politics and conditional cash transfers in Northeast Brazil. Flávio has published widely on issues surrounding politics, poverty and anti-poverty policies, policy implementation, with a special focus on Brazil, where Flávio comes from.
He is Assistant Professor (tenured) at the Faculty of Arts (Minorities & Multilingualism), University of Groningen. He is also Director of Studies of the University Minor Development Studies.
In the Minorities & Multilingualism group, Flávio teaches and researches issues related to diversity and minorities, with a focus on race/racism, far-right politics and colonialism.
He was a member of the Young Arts Research Network (YARN) (2020-2023).
Between 2017-2021, Flávio was Post-doctoral Researcher in the ERC-funded project ‘Participatory urban governance between democracy and clientelism: Brokers and (in)formal politics’, at the Radboud University Nijmegen.
He holds a PhD in Sociology from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, France. He also holds a MSc in Sociology from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (2012), a MSc in Sustainable Development from the University of Brasília (2011), as well as a BA in Social Sciences (Sociology) from the University of Brasília (2009).
