Field/Discipline

Expertise

I am an interdisciplinary researcher investigating how institutions shape enduring psychological mechanisms that influence human behaviours and attitudes. My current research focuses on highly skilled Chinese migrants in Germany, analysing how authoritarian socialisation produces the atomised community, political disaffection, media attitudes, and nationalism that persist in democratic contexts.

Drawing on sociology, political philosophy, psychology, and history, I develop a multi-mechanism institutional-psychological framework that reveals how value and emotional patterns interact with institutional structures. My earlier anthropological research examined how migrant women's embodied experiences and affective memories sustain cultural continuity across generations.

I specialise in qualitative methods including in-depth interviewing, multi-sited ethnography, and reflexive thematic analysis, with extensive transnational fieldwork experience in China, Australia, and Germany.

Research expertise:
• Values, Emotions & Affect
• Political Sociology & Polarisation
• Authoritarian Socialisation & Institutional Legacies
• Migration & Transnationalism
• Media & Politics
• Technology & AI
• Gender & Embodiment
• Qualitative Methods
