Alain Dekker is involved as supervisor in various research projects, among others various projects focusing on dementia in people with intellectual disabilities. People with Down syndrome deserve specific attention, given their high risk to develop dementia due to Alzheimer's disease. Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia are a specific research focus. Moreover, studies are being conducted about dementia among people with severe/profound intellectual disabilities. The various projects are conducted by the UMCG in collaboration with Alliade Care Group, various other Dutch health care organizations and European partners.
