Projects

Within the Smart Buildings programme we are working on various projects. Each of these projects contributes in its own way to making better use of our buildings.

Would you like to know more about a specific project? Have a look at the projects on this page or send an email to smartbuildings rug.nl.

Occupancy monitor
As a student, finding a free study space in the University Library can sometimes be challenging, especially during exam periods. With this project, we are developing a (near) real-time occupancy monitor. This makes it easier to find an available study space. The occupancy monitor also helps to make real estate and facility management decisions.

Utilization of classrooms
The number of education spaces at the University is limited. As a result, students often have classes at external locations or at inconvenient times. This project measures the utilization of various teaching spaces. Over time, this will allow us to better align our real estate offerings with demand and enable more user-friendly scheduling.

RUG Maps

The university is large and comprises many different buildings. This is especially noticeable when you are new to the University of Groningen or need to be in a different building for a lecture or meeting. RUG Maps helps users find the desired rooms and facilities.
