Occupancy monitor

10 February 2026

When students want to study in the University Library, finding an available study space can sometimes be difficult. This is frustrating for these students. At the same time, it can also be disruptive for students who are already studying when others wander around searching for a spot. By measuring how busy the study spaces are and sharing this information with students, they can more easily find an available study space. Detailed insights into occupancy levels can also be used to optimize services.

First and foremost, we want to help students find suitable study spaces by providing (near) real-time insights into occupancy. Secondly, we aim to assist decision-makers in making informed choices. We do this by developing automated dashboards and reports that present various insights, such as historical, (near) real-time, and predicted occupancy.
