Next edition TechTalks050, October 28: Energy transition – is hydrogen the future?

08 October 2019

Over the past few decades, natural gas production has brought with it a great deal of knowledge about the use and transport of gases. How can we use this knowledge to stimulate the use of hydrogen? Where hydrogen is concerned, can the North lead the way in the Netherlands? These questions will be the focus of the upcoming TechTalks050 discussion on energy transition.

When: Monday 28 October 7 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Where: DOT Groningen, Vrydemalaan 2

Ton Schoot Uiterkamp (Emeritus Professor of Environmental Studies) has conducted a lot of research into the relationships between energy systems and the environment. He outlines the energy transition based on social and technological developments in the field of sustainable energy and examines the role that hydrogen can play here.

Stefan Holthausen is the managing director of the Holthausen Group in Hoogezand, a leader in safety solutions and energy transition. The company has been producing its own sustainable hydrogen for some years now and is participating in dozens of hydrogen projects in the Northern Netherlands. During his presentation, Stefan will talk about the existing hydrogen applications of the Holthaus Group and the new applications that are being developed. The first hydrogen filling stations will open in Groningen and Amsterdam in early 2020, as part of the roll-out of a national hydrogen filling station network. Holthausen is also known for the world-famous ‘Groningen Hesla’: a converted Tesla on hydrogen used to demonstrate the many possibilities of hydrogen.
