In the framework of a working visit Prime Minister Balkenende visited, on his own request, the CIT on wednesday, november 8, 2008. Because it was an informal viste, there was not much advance publicity.

During a presentation, the prime minister was informed about some innovative ICT projects in which the CIT is involved: Wireless Groningen, LOFAR and TARGET. Then the Prime Minister attended a demonstration in the Virutal Reality Center of the CIT and a visit to the computerroom where the new supercomputer Blue Gene / P can be found. On departure, the Prime Minister that he was impressed by the facilities and activities that took place in CIT.
