The efficient, reliable, and fast control of a material's electronic properties is crucial to the design of novel electronics. In this talk, I will show how we can use Angle Resolved
Photoemission Spectroscopy (ARPES) in combination with chemical gating and pump-and-probe techniques to image and control the electronic band structure of quantum
materials. I will first focus on the Rashba effect in two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG), a long lasting staple in the field of spintronics, due to its superior electrical tunability. Our time-
resolved ARPES experiments show that optical excitations can tune the Rashba-induced spin splitting of 2DEGs by modulating the spin-orbit coupling strength on a sub-
picosecond timescale, which provides an unprecedented platform for achieving optically-driven spin logic. I will also discuss our recent progress in realizing electrically driven topological phase
switching in nodal line semimetal materials.
