Embedded Non-Volatile Memory (eNVM) is an enabling technology at NXP for applications in, but not limited to, identification and security products where late programmable or field upgradable code and/or data storage is required.
Choices and challenges of integrating high-performance eNVM memories in advanced CMOS technologies will be presented with a focus on the NXP proprietary 2T-FNFN eNVM technology.
For decades the semiconductor industry is working on developing disruptive (non-volatile) memory technologies based on alternative data storage principles (FeRAM, MRAM, PCRAM, ReRAM,..) which offer potentially better performance at a lower cost. Though good progress is made and some technologies have entered the market, they have not, yet, become widely adopted in the industry. An overview of disruptive memory technologies will be given and the challenges for them to become mainstream technology will be discussed.
