Abstract

Many new materials are fundamentally multifunctional and complex studies of all properties are necessary. The multifunctionality of these materials often occurs at nanoscales on various temporal and compositional levels. In our lab (Magnetics and Advanced Ceramics Lab, IIT Delhi) we develop and characterize materials with functional properties like multiferroicity, magnetic shape memory effect, magnetic high-k dielectrics and topological insulators. I would describe some of our recent interesting results on some of these above-mentioned topics. The sensitive nature of the physical properties of oxides to the microstructure and interfaces has created various challenges and understanding of multifunctionality of these materials is not only an exciting scientific opportunity but also technologically very important.
