Inventing and introducing new materials is a most complex process, especially for novel materials with specialized functionality. Significant progress in computational simulation and modeling of Materials was made, however, the transfer of this know-how into real world´s devices is challenging. As an example - 100.000 of thounsands organic semiconductors were published over the last 20 years, but the community is still convinced that the current generation of materials is still away from the optimum. To build on the progress initiated by computational material design, a large amount of experimental data for validating these models, are required. Robot based high-throughput experimentation allows the generation of huge volumes of experimental data with outstanding precision using combinatorial materials synthesis and rapid measurement techniques. In this presentation we will introduce into robot based material testing and explain the potential of this method at the hand of a few case scenarios from the field of solution processed photovoltaics.
